Yotsuya Fire Fighting Museum
消防博物館 Shinjuku Yotsuya 3-10
The other day I went for a meeting to Yotsuya-Sanchome 四ッ谷三丁目, a station in the red Marunouchi subway line. Right in the corner the Fire Department building and the museum; unique to follow the history of fire-fighting efforts from the pre-edo era till now.
In this Tokyo fire map you can glimpse some of the fire watch towers (a replica is in the Fukagawa Edo Museum) around the East of Tokyo. Each fire brigade used to have its own symbol that was carried high up; a good mix of traditional and industrial design here.
A little more on emergency preparations.
